If you're anything like me (meaning over the age of 50), you probably have fond memories of 1980s arcade games. Indeed, my weekly allowance was frequently exchanged for quarters and dropped into the likes of Donkey Kong, Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man.
Speaking of that venerated hungry lady, here's your chance to bring home your very own arcade version: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Walmart has the Arcade1Up Ms. Pac-Man game with riser for $289. That's $111 off the regular price.
For those unfamiliar with Arcade1Up's lineup, the games are 3/4-size replicas — not quite the big cabinets you remember, but faithfully recreated in every other way.
This one comes with a riser, which raises it to a more comfortable height for standing. But if you prefer, you can ditch the riser and pull up a stool (or just let the kids or grandkids play — it's the right height for them).
The cabinet does require some assembly, but it's not complicated and takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your proficiency with a screwdriver. I've put together a couple of these without difficulty or incident.
Once completed, you can play not only the original, classic Ms. Pac-Man game, but also Pac-Mania, Pac-Man Plus and Galaxian. I do wish Arcade1Up offered a larger selection of titles; a little web-sleuthing might reveal ways to add more on your own.
Even with the limited selection, there's no denying the tremendous nostalgia value of this cabinet. It looks, sounds and plays like the real thing, and makes a great addition to any game room.
