Move Over Netflix, Disney+ Is Officially Live
It’s official—Disney+ is live.
The new streaming service launched this morning (though not without some errors, according to The NY Times), and is shaping up to become a huge rival to Netflix and Amazon Prime, especially in an increasingly competitive online streaming market. Apparently, some users were allowed to purchase Disney+ on their computer, but once paid for, the service would not load on smart TVs or on the PlayStation app. Not cool.
Disney+ had been teasing its long-awaited streaming service for many months, which includes nearly 500 movies and 7,500 TV episodes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more.
The launch of the service is pretty big, considering that Disney is now going to begin removing any movies and shows that are currently being offered on other services (Netflix, Hulu etc.). Sorry, you can’t watch Moana on Hulu anymore.
Additionally, the streaming service will begin launching exclusive new shows (like the Lizzie McGuire reboot) and series that will tie into the Avengers franchise. So true fans will feel obligated to watch them to fully understand future storylines. Interesting.
Users can get all that content for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year (the cheapest of any streaming service to date).
