More Hello Kitty Wine Is Here in Time for the Holidays
Hello Kitty is one of those characters that is clearly aimed at children but that the young at heart seem to identify with well into adulthood—like Mickey Mouse or the Mario Brothers or… well, these days almost anything retro is still considered cool, huh? In the case of Hello Kitty, Sanrio—the company behind the cutesy (not-actually-a-)cat—has specifically been courting an adult audience with Hello Kitty wines. And apparently, these wines are drawing plenty of interest because for the 2017 holiday season, Sanrio has announced that it’s expanding its product range.
Sanrio has partnered with the Italian-based Torti Winery for the international market since 2007 but has only more recently been bringing those wines into America. For this holiday season, that includes updated packaging and two entirely new additions. New to the lineup are “an award-winning Pinot Noir (recipient of the prestigious Vinitaly 5 Star Wines award in 2017)” and a “special edition Sparkling Rosé with limited edition packaging.” They join another Sparkling Rosé, a Pinot Nero Vinified in White and a returning, updated “Sweet Pink” blend in a brand new limited-edition gift box. Despite the diverse selection, all five wines are produced in the Lombardy region of Italy.
Additional good news for Hello Kitty fans is that these wines are now available in 10 states: California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C. They can also be purchased online at hellokitty.swvino.com. However, don’t expect reliving your childhood in wine form to come cheap. Online prices begin at $24.50 per bottle for the Pinot Nero Vinified in White and go up to $39.95 for the Special Edition Numbered Rosé—plus a minimum of two bottles must be purchased at a time. But hey, if you’re a Hello Kitty diehard, you’re probably used to sparing no expense—as your pink room decorated entirely in Hello Kitty accessories clearly shows.
