Mom shares the 1 trick that got her baby to stop crying in the car. Hint: It involves a selfie!
A California mom is sharing a clutch trick to getting rear-facing babies to stop crying in the car.
“I tried everything, pacifiers, singing, a portable sound machine, her big brother would try to make her laugh, you name it, I tried it," Jacquie Ciccone tells TODAY.com. “Nothing worked. She just wanted me."
“I’m pretty sure that people driving next to us could hear her screaming," she adds. “And it was nonstop.”
Then one day, Ciccone’s husband Matthew had an idea.
“I was standing in the kitchen and he comes up to me and asks me to smile — and then he snaps a picture really close to my face,” Ciccone says.
That photo Matthew took is now going viral.
In an Instagram reel with more than 65 million views, the Ciccones 5-month-old daughter sits happily in her carseat, smiling and giggling at a large cutout of her mom’s face. She's absolutely transfixed by the image of her favorite person.
“I took her to physical therapy that day — it’s about an hour each way — and I was absolutely dreading it in Los Angles traffic, but she did great,” Ciccone says, noting that Matthew should be an inventor.
“When your baby hates the car but loves your face. Thanks to my hubby for printing this terrifying photo,” Ciccone captioned her post.
“Why didn’t I think of this!!! all the other parents are smarter than me,” one person wrote in the comments, to which Ciccone replied, "Why didn't I think of it sooner? Lol."
Added another, “This is working smarter instead of harder."
Other reactions included:
“The best part being the mom thinks the photo is terrifying but the baby is in love with it.”
“that little squeak of joy!”
“Genius.”
“NOW I WANT A BABY.”
"Sometimes she cooes at the picture when we're driving," Ciccone tells TODAY.com. "It's pretty adorable."
