Mom Responds to Troll Who Called Her Postpartum Body Lazy and Ugly in Empowering Post

If hurtful words have lingered in your head for days, or even weeks on end, you’re not alone. On social media, it's easy to delete an unkind message and block the hater, but it isn't always easy to forget the harsh words that can become engrained in your mind. Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, though, one mom is reminding us to feel sorry for the people who put others down.

Kristyn Dingman of @mrsdingman.mama is a proud, body positive mom looking to empower women and encourage self-love. She often bares it all on Instagram to teach others to love the skin they’re in. In an inspiring post—with the words “empower” written across her stomach—Dingman recently told her followers about how she reacted when a follower called her "lazy" and "ugly" in a nasty comment.

One of the biggest ways I stay motivated is by a constant stream of inspiration flowing my way. I find my best inspiration from other women who are on a similar mission toward self love and happiness. _ I love chatting with other moms or body positive strangers who share a similar goal of empowerment toward changing societies vision of beauty. Empowerment drives me to continue to better myself esteem and mind set to think positive and inspire others who may be struggling. _ I’ve been talking to so many others about this same issue of empowerment. So many times I see women putting down other women for their bodies. Don’t we have enough issues as it is?!? I received one particularly nasty troll comment a few weeks back that is just sticking with me and I have been trying to shake it off but I’m having trouble. _ I didn’t respond or comment on this message. I didn’t get angry or cry. I just simply deleted and blocked the women who left it. But, I just can’t seem to forget what she said to me. Of all the feelings I have toward this message, it’s that I feel sorry for her. I wanted to give her a hug and let her know that the more we put each other down, the worse off we will be. We can’t grow or be united as a strong sex if we are constantly at war. “Of all the feelings I have toward this message, it’s that I feel sorry for her," Dingman writes. "I wanted to give her a hug and let her know that the more we put each other down, the worse off we will be. We can’t grow or be united as a strong sex if we are constantly at war."

Dingman deleted the hateful comment and didn't retaliate. Instead, she took it as an opportunity to show women how important it is to lift each other up rather than putting others down.

In this and many other posts on her feed, Dingman is on a mission to spread her body positive message—and we are all for it. She often reminds followers that they are beautiful no matter their size, and speaks honestly about her recovery from pregnancy.

When someone’s asks me when I will get my body back post pregnancy I say that I never lost it. Pregnancy by definition is a life changing event. With such a drastic change comes drastic changes to our mind, body and souls. _ One of the hardest things for me to understand is why people feel the need to bring others down. Internet trolls main mission is to fill their miserable lives and crawl under the bridge (social media platforms) and roll around in the muddy comments underneath. _ What blows my mind even more is that 97% of the negativity I have received has been from women. What are we doing?! How are we supposed to feel like strong confident women when we are tearing each other down? We are on the same team and bullying isn’t something I stand for. _ My time and energy can’t be waisted on Trolls. I have so many reasons to be happy and the negative words that get thrown at me will never bring me down. Don’t let my body image be your outlet to throw your trash. _ Don’t listen to their hatred or let it change your mission.
