Mina Starsiak Hawk Develops Diastasis Recti During Pregnancy
HGTV star Mina Starsiak Hawk revealed on social media that she has developed diastasis recti during pregnancy.
"So I first kind of noticed about a week ago ... if I laid down flat and tried to sit up and contract my abs, instead of being like a smooth circle for my belly, it's kind of like a triangle," Mina said in an Instagram Story.
According to Healthline, diastasis recti "is the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominis, or 'six-pack' muscles, which meet at the midline of your stomach. Diastasis recti is very common during and following pregnancy. This is because the uterus stretches the muscles in the abdomen to accommodate your growing baby."
After sharing her struggles, fans rushed to offer Mina advice for how to overcome them.
"I have a bunch of messages with lots of good accounts to follow, and exercise suggestions, and programs, and stuff for the diastasis recti ... I guess it does have to be surgical, but it's fixed with a tummy tuck," Mina said in an update. "So we'll see. Step one, have a baby."
Mina, who had a less than 1% chance of becoming pregnant for a second time and documented her challenging journey to conceive, will soon welcome little Charlie to the world.
“I’ve planned my whole life around this,” she told People magazine in an exclusive interview revealing her pregnancy. “The floor plan of my house has two kids’ rooms and a playroom. We’re supposed to be a big family.
The coming year will be a busy one for Mina. In addition to welcoming a new addition to the family, HGTV has renewed Good Bones for a sixth season. Mark your calendars for summer 2021.
