Millie Bobby Brown has some fans scratching their heads as they wonder whether the British actress was putting on an American accent during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Brown, 20, stopped by the late night show to chat with host Jimmy Fallon about her movie, Damsel, which will be released on Netflix on March 8. While speaking with Fallon, the Stranger Things star seemed to toggle back and forth between her British accent and one that sounded more American. The shifts could be heard in a video the late night show shared on Instagram, which focused on a conversation that Brown had with Fallon about her dog, Winnie.

Several viewers posted comments on the video about Brown’s accent shifts, with some worrying that she is “losing her British accent” and others accusing her of attempting to “fake an American accent.”

“Why does Millie loose her accent whenever she does American interviews,” one Instagram user wondered, while another described Brown’s accent as “so confusing.”

“The other day you were ‘proper’ English but now it’s a bit strange,” wrote another.

Other Instagram users jumped into the mix to urge people worried about Brown’s accent to “relax.”

“Not everyone hating bc her accent is changing....grow up,” one person wrote.

“Y’all she’s literally an actor who just did a movie and is filming a tv show where she has to have an American tone,” another person said, adding, “leave the girl alone y’all are to much.”

As some viewers noted, Brown’s work as an actress means she often embraces different accents to bring characters to life, as she did with her breakthrough role playing Eleven on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. Spending time around people who speak with accents different from her native one can also have an impact.
