Mikayla Nogueira is a beauty influencer on TikTok most commonly known for her colorful glam looks and strong Boston accent. Since her rise to social media stardom, Mikayla has been part of a few public scandals. One was when a waitress exposed Mikayla for supposedly being very rude when eating at the restaurant she works at. Or the several times that she has been called out by viewers for heavily editing her photos and using filters in her TikTok videos despite promising honest reviews and real, relatable content.
Mikayla is currently under fire after posting a TikTok on January 24 testing out the new L'Oréal Telescopic Lift mascara in a sponsored vid. She starts off the video with one eye with mascara and the other bare to show viewers the difference, remarking on how impressive the product is. "This literally just changed my life," she exclaimed. "This looks like a false lash."
She then goes on to coat her other lashes with the mascara on camera to show it in action, but after a quick cut in the video, Mikayla turns her head and appears to have more lashes than before, which mascara alone generally cannot achieve.
"I am speechless, and I’m not sure anyone’s ever gonna be able to compete with this mascara," Mikayla raved.
Immediately the comment section flooded with speculation that Mikayla put on false lashes and was giving viewers the impression that the mascara was solely responsible for the effect.
"Looks like Ardell wispies to me," one user commented.
"Girl did u add falsies at the end? we can see the length in the outer corner ??," said a commenter, to which Mikayla replied, " Nooo just three/four coats and my tight liner."
"Don't gaslight me rn mikayla," one wrote, with another saying, "Are you lashlighting us rn."
Fans also expressed their disappointment in the comments, saying that they always trusted Mikayla to give honest, trustworthy reviews on which products are actually worth buying in a world of filters and false advertising.
"Why aren't influencers honest anymore? Like when did this happen?? We used to be able to trust reviews and now we can't trust a single one," said one commenter.
Fans waited days for Mikayla to address the situation, and after a full week of social media silence, she finally posted a TikTok.
"I'm sure we all know why we've gathered here today," she said with a dramatic pause, starting the video off with everyone's attention absolutely *snatched.* "It's the month of love, b*tches," she continued to do a Valentine's Day makeup tutorial, not addressing the mascara incident.
"Am I the only one waiting for an answer .. ? lmao," one TikToker said.
While many disapproved of the way Mikayla handled the situation (or her lack thereof), others completely cheered her on.
"She's back and unbothered ????????love to see it!" one supporter wrote.
"I'm SO glad you didn't waste time on the mascara BS, you owe no explanation! Glad you're back!"
Even the beauty brand Ardell themselves jumped in on the drama, posting a TikTok with a transition trend to suggest Mikayla's use of their product. They captioned the video, "miss demi wispies are loving the spotlight ???"
For now, mascara-gate has died down, but we're keeping our eyes peeled for any updates.
