Michael Tusk's eBay Purchase
? Robert Durrel
Michael Tusk, right, at the new Quince. The stove isn't in the picture.
San Francisco’s preeminent Italian restaurant Quince is a day away from reopening in a brand-new space on October 1 (we’re so excited about it, we’re featuring it in F&W’s soon-to-be-out November issue). The now-spacious restaurant was designed by Olle Lundberg (you’ve seen his work at the Slanted Door). The dining room is platinum with black accents and Murano glass chandeliers, but what sounds especially beautiful to me is the stove chef-owner Michael Tusk has installed out of sight of customers. Tusk found the cobalt blue Bonnet island suite stove on eBay. It used to be in action at the now-shuttered L'Orangerie in Los Angeles; for the past three years it sat in storage. Jan Newberry has more details (including the stove's exciting delivery by crane) in San Francisco magazine and at sanfranmag.com.
