New Mexico State Fair opens with new attractions and security upgrades
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –The New Mexico State Fair began Thursday morning with fair food, fun rides, and plenty of activities for the first day of the fair. Fairgoers said they are excited to see the new things at the fair, visit their classical favorites, and try plenty of food. The gates opened at 10 a.m. at Expo New Mexico.

People took advantage of the $2 entrance price for the first day. “The fair is amazing and I saw the opening day was two dollars i was like perfect I’ll be there, ” said Anna Gilboard, state fair goer.
People can enjoy things like the popular pig races. The state fair will also have a new foaming party area. It is a place where visitors can cool off from the hot temperatures. Another attraction is the jet pack flying circus. “Pretty much everything. We want to see the animals, we want to see, the pies we want to see produce,” said Gilboard.
Rex’s Burger has been serving people at the fair for 53 years. “Oh my gosh, this is what I love to do you would not do it if you didn’t enjoy doing it,” said Owner Rex Thompson, Rex’s Hambuger.
“It’s just all about people coming together. the farmers, the ranchers, the city folk. It’s everybody. Its joy. It’s all about having a good time,” said Thompson.
The state fair has seen some security upgrades. At the entrances, the fair has added new metal detectors that work with artificial intelligence, the same ones used in NFL stadiums. It cost $2 million and was also used during the Gathering of Nations. It will help lines move quicker to get into the fair.
The state fair runs until September 15.
