Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski & Audra McDonald Just Blessed Us with a Video of Themselves Drinking and Singing in Their Bathrobes
If you’re like us, then your time in quarantine has consisted of sipping cocktails in your bathrobe and singing show tunes in the shower. And in a surprising turn of events, it seems our lives aren’t that different from the lives of Meryl Streep, Audra McDonald and Christine Baranski.
In honor of Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday, the trio participated in a Zoom celebration concert on Sunday evening. During the event, they sang their rendition of “The Ladies Who Lunch,” a song written by Sondheim and originally performed by Elaine Stritch in Company back in the ’70s.
And boy was this performance exactly what we needed. There were bathrobes! There was vibrato! There was Meryl drinking a martini! Not to mention, these ladies sounded absolutely fantastic. Not to mention, these ladies sounded absolutely fantastic.
Over the course of the two-and-a-half-hour long birthday concert, which was hosted by Raúl Esparza, there were also performances by theater legends like Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone, as well as Beanie Feldstein, Ben Platt, and even Jake Gyllenhaal (yup, the man’s got some serious pipes).
When we have virtual concerts like these, who needs the Tony Awards?
