Meghan Markle's Anti-Stress Patch Was Not SponCon, Brand Says
Last week, Meghan Markle was spotted in Montecito in an autumnal outfit—and wearing an anti-stress patch made by NuCalm. After she was photographed with her sleeve rolled up, many online speculated she could have a brand deal with the company, or that it was "sponcon," i.e. sponsored content. NuCalm, however, has denied any business relationship with the Duchess of Sussex.
"We have never sponsored or paid for any product endorsements despite working with over 56 professional sports teams and hundreds of celebrities," NuCalm told Page Six in a statement. "We never share who is using NuCalm, but if an athlete or celebrity wants to share, that is their prerogative."
Meghan was wearing a NuCalm Biosignal Processing Disc, which, according to their site, "provides the resonance and frequencies to ensure a fast-acting, deep, and long-lasting NuCalm experience." (It's unclear what the "NuCalm experience is." The disc is sold either in packs of 20 (for $80) or packs of 100 (for $400).
The brand was reportedly aware that Meghan was a fan, according to CEO Jim Poole. He told Hello! "We know who all our NuCalmers are," saying celebrities have used the device to "lower their stress, improve sleep quality, and increase their focus with no drugs." And, though they didn't sponsor Meghan, her wearing the patch has seen a major increase in interest in the brand, Poole says. "We've seen a major spike in sales, website traffic, and social media engagement in less than 24 hours of the news story breaking."
