Meghan Markle’s Royal Bio Is Here & It’s a Huge Departure from the Norm
Now that she’s been crowned the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has her very own bio on the royal family’s website. And, true to her reputation as a royal trailblazer, her entry on the site is far different from any other member of Britain’s ruling family.
Meghan’s write-up not only highlights her early life, education and official royal job—as is protocol—but it also explores her feminist causes, acting career and work on The Tig. (For reference, Kate Middleton’s merely breezes over her family life, education and causes close to her heart, so this is pretty major.)
In addition to including an on-set photo from her Suits days, Her Royal Highness’s bio outlines her work as a feminist and women’s empowerment advocate. It even includes a pull quote from Markle’s 2015 International Women’s Day UN speech, which says, “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.”
Why is this so shocking? Well, until now, members of the royal family have been forbidden from publicly expressing their political opinions and—guess what? Feminism is a political issue.
Furthermore, bios of other royals who weren’t born into the Windsor family—like K-Middy and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall—do not include career details prior to their becoming dignitaries.
Leave it to Meghan Markle to majorly switch up the royal game just days after becoming a duchess.
