Meghan Markle Receives Four New Royal Patronages from Queen Elizabeth

Kicking off 2019 in the best way possible, Kensington Palace has revealed that Meghan Markle has been given her first royal patronages since joining the royal family.
As well as taking over two of Queen Elizabeth's royal patronages-at the National Theatre, and at the Association of Commonwealth Universities-Meghan also becomes the royal patron of The Mayhew, which is an animal welfare organization, and of Smart Works, which helps unemployed and vulnerable women back into the workplace.
Meghan joined the royal family in May 2018 when she married Prince Harry in a fairytale wedding at Windsor Castle.
In a series of tweets released on Thursday morning, Kensington Palace revealed that Meghan Markle has been given four new royal patronages-including taking over from the Queen as royal patron of the National Theatre in London. While Meghan's theatrical patronage was already rumored, news of the other three organizations the Duchess of Sussex will work with had yet to be revealed.
Confirming her new roles via Twitter, Kensington Palace explained, "The Duchess of Sussex will become Patron of four organisations that reflect the causes and issues with which she has long been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare."
As a former actress, it makes sense that Meghan is taking over as the National Theatre's royal patron. And, as explained by Kensington Palace, her three other new patronages are all in keeping with the Duchess of Sussex's interests and sensibilities.
Meghan also takes over the Queen's patronage at the Association of Commonwealth Universities, with the official announcement revealing that, "Her Royal Highness is a strong advocate of accessible education for all." In fact, during her first royal tour with Prince Harry back in October 2018, Meghan gave an inspiring speech about female empowerment and education while in Fiji, explaining details about her own college experience, so her new role makes perfect sense:
Meghan has also become the royal patron of The Mayhew, an animal welfare organization that works within the community to ensure the wellbeing of pets and vulnerable animals.
Last but not least, Meghan assumes the role of royal patron of Smart Works, an incredible organization aiding unemployed and vulnerable women to get back into the workplace.
It's starting to look like the Duchess of Sussex will be incredibly busy in 2019.
