Meghan Markle Rang in Her 40th Birthday With an Adorable Video Starring Melissa McCarthy
In an adorable (and hilarious) video with Melissa McCarthy, Meghan Markle launched her new 40x40 campaign today in honor of her 40th birthday! Through Archewell, aka the nonprofit and business she and hubby Prince Harry founded, Meghan is asking people to donate 40 minutes of their time to help women transition back into the workforce, especially since more than two million women in the U.S. have had to leave their jobs due to the pandemic.
"I believe mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength, and for my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce," she wrote on the site. "With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well."
In the video, Meghan and Melissa are on a video call, and Melissa guesses a bunch of ways she hopes the duchess will celebrate the milestone birthday, including but not limited to a Suits reunion, a yacht party, and matching tats of their faces with "besties forever" written underneath. "Well, you know I already have something similar across my back," joked Meghan, who lovingly dodged the ink by saying she'd reconsider for her 50th (lol).
Melissa obvi ends up committing to the initiative —and ofc wants to do it in her yacht party hat, duh. But truly, the blooper at the end with Prince Harry photobombing Meghan's shot by juggling in the distance was the cherry on top of an already perfect video. So pure, so wholesome.
Happy 40th birthday to the Duchess of Sussex! Will you answer her call to action?
