Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Rep Addresses False Rumors About Them
One of the biggest accusations that came out of Prince Harry's memoir Spare and the Netflix docuseries about himself and wife Meghan Markle, Meghan & Harry, is that the royal family deliberately leaks stories about the Sussexes to keep negative attention off themselves. According to Yahoo U.K.'s royal executive editor Omid Scobie, the past few weeks have seen the U.K. media seemingly confirming this pattern with myriad negative stories about the couple.
Meghan and Harry promoted their new releases at the end of 2022, but have not done many public events since. However, everything about them is being covered on a daily basis. They were also mocked in a recent South Park episode. A source told The Spectator Meghan was “upset and overwhelmed” following the episode's release and planning to sue, but a spokesperson for the couple denied this to People.
“Nonsense,” the rep insisted. “Totally baseless, boring reports."
They added, “Absolute trash.”
Covering Meghan and Harry is a whole industry at this point, with many rumors about their feelings, plans, and next movies. A source told Scobie that “no-one, no matter how well-sourced, knows their plans right now.”
In the South Park episode, the Sussexes are pictured as two people desperate for attention who are always insisting they don't want it, a characterization that has been leveled at them frequently. After Harry & Meghan aired in December, their global press secretary spoke to it directly.
“Their statement announcing their decision to step back mentions nothing of privacy and reiterates their desire to continue their roles and public duties,” the spokesperson said. “Any suggestion otherwise speaks to a key point of this series... They are choosing to share their story, on their terms, and yet the tabloid media has created an entirely untrue narrative that permeates press coverage and public opinion. The facts are right in front of them.”
