A Meghan Markle and Pippa Middleton-Approved Clutch Gets an Update at J.Crew
Meghan Markle and Pippa Middleton each boast their own fashionable tastes—and when they overlap, it's guaranteed to be on a worthwhile piece.
Last summer, both Meghan and Pippa were spotting carrying a rattan clutch from affordable, preppy-approved brand J.Crew. Pippa was first seen toting the purse to Wimbledon in July, pairing it with a white eyelet dress on the 5th, and a patterned maxi on the 12th. Just a couple weeks later, it was Meghan's turn: the Duchess was seen with the bag at the Sentebale Polo Cup, cheering on her husband Prince Harry.
In the year since, that exact J.Crew clutch has sold out—but the brand has recently released a successor. The new design is more rectangular, but otherwise very similar, down to the leather closures. It also comes in a pink variation, for anyone interested in a more adventurous version of the standard straw bag. And, best of all, it's currently available at a discount.
J.Crew isn't the only bag brand that both Meghan and Pippa have endorsed. They also share a penchant for DeMellier, a British accessories brand with a social justice mission. (And it's not just them: Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Beatrice have also been seen carrying DeMellier purses.)
Earlier this year, DeMellier's founder Mireia Llusia-Lindh told Town & Country that the royal support was a welcome—if unexpected—development. "I don’t know them personally, so I could never have predicted it!" she said. Llusia-Lindh added that the royals have "helped us increase our brand awareness in several countries and boosted all the initiatives we were doing. They are amazing ambassadors to the British brands they choose to wear."
