Meghan Markle Gets Backlash After Staff Ban People From Taking Her Photo in Public
Meghan Markle is facing backlash after staff allegedly banned public from taking pics of her at Wimbledon.
Reminder: Meghan was at the event in a private capacity.
Today in royal news that is sure to make Twitter an even more petty place, the Daily Telegraph reports that Meghan Markle’s staff is asking people not to take her photo in public. Which...seems like a reasonable (if hard to enforce) request?
According to someone seated next to Meghan and her friends during her recent Wimbledon appearance, the duchess’s protection officer asked people nearby to respect her privacy and *not* take pics. And some of said people weren’t thrilled.
A woman named Sally Jones tells the Daily Telegraph (via The Express) that a royal protection officer requested she not take any pictures of Meghan because she was at the event “in a private capacity.” And apparently, Ms. Jones wasn’t here for the request, saying it’s another example of “silly control freakery.” She also said that “this royal protection officer was quite embarrassed” and “he appeared a bit mystified as to why he was being asked to make such a request.”
That said, a palace source tells the Daily Telegraph that “it’s not unusual for people accompanying Members of the Royal Family at private, or public, events to ask members of the public not to take photographs. It is to enable Members of the Royal Family to engage with people and events.”
Naturally, this news is causing some negative backlash, even among royal reporters:
Meanwhile, Piers Morgan had a full-blown freak-out on air and said, “If you want to be private, go back to America and live privately,” which is obviously so rude and unnecessary.
IMHO, Meghan deserves privacy when she’s at an event in a private capacity, and requesting politely that people respect her space is fully understandable! Agree? Disagree?
