Meghan Markle Confirms That *She* Put Herself Through College
Meghan Markle gave her first speech of the royal tour yesterday, and in it, she talked about how important it was for her to get an education, and for girls around the world to do the same. She also implied that she paid for it herself.
“As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university,” she began.
“From the moment you receive your acceptance letter to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for.... the journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one. I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world, myself included.”
Meghan went to Northwestern University, and her half-brother told the Daily Mail before she got married that her dad won the lottery at one point, which is what paid for Meghan's tuition. Meghan, however, seemed to have a different take on the situation.
“It was through scholarships, financial aid programs and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition – that I was able to attend university. And, without question, it was worth every effort,” she said.

She said that it's vital for girls in developing countries especially to be given access to education, because that's the best way to make sure they can create a live for themselves.
“Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive. And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital," she said.
