McDonald's Miniaturizes One of Its Iconic Menu Items

McDonald’s is introducing a miniature version of an iconic, fan-favorite item to menus just in time for the fall season, the chain announced in a press release.

Beginning Sept. 10, McDonald’s fans across America can pick up a “Mini McFlurry,” which is exactly what it sounds like. For those who wish to indulge in the legendary Golden Arches dessert without taking on all the calories of a full-sized Flurry, your day has arrived. The revitalized snack will be available in classic Oreo and M&M flavors, as well as limited-edition flavors such as Kit Kat Banana Split.

“Got a friend who always wants ‘just a bite?’” the statement queried. “Instead of grabbing an extra spoon, you can grab them a Mini McFlurry of their own. Or maybe you’re looking for a quick afternoon pick-me-up—the Mini McFlurry is perfect for you, too.”

The chain is also making another slight change to its McFlurry presentation, doing away with the dome plastic toppers and transitioning to “a more environmentally friendly four-flap cup, which will help reduce waste and advance our goal of sourcing 100 percent of primary guest packaging from renewable, recycled or certified materials by the end of 2025,” McDonald’s explained. The new cups are making their American debut after rolling out in international markets such as Canada and Indonesia.

“Packaging updates like this matter,” Michael Gonda, the chain’s SVP Chief Impact Officer of North America. “Not only is this a fun new way for our U.S. fans to enjoy the McFlurry; we're also moving one step closer to fulfilling our packaging and waste commitments.”

You can head to your local participating McDonald’s location on Sept. 10 to try out the new Mini McFlurry.
