McDonald's Made An Awesome Change To Its Burgers
The fast food chain we know and love is on a mission. Yesterday, McDonald's announced the next milestone in its journey toward a "better McDonald's", and no, unfortunately it's not investing in more reliable ice cream machines. Per a press release, McDonald's classic burgers do not contain any artificial preservatives, artificial flavors, or added colors from artificial sources.
The ingredient changes apply to all 14,000 U.S. McDonald's locations. The classic burgers at the chain include the hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, McDouble, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and Big Mac. In order to achieve the preservative-free burgers, artificial preservatives were removed from McDonald's real American Cheese, Big Mac Special Sauce, the regular bun, the Quarter Pounder Bun, and the Big Mac Bun, the press release states.
McDonald's notes that the pickle still contains an artificial preservative, but customers can leave it off if they prefer.
Chris Kempczinski, McDonald's USA President, says, "From switching to 100% fresh beef in our quarter-pounder burgers, cooked right when ordered, to removing artificial preservatives in our Chicken McNuggets, and committing to cage-free eggs by 2025, we have made significant strides in evolving the quality of our food."
Additional customer-driven initiatives McDonald's has committed to include sustainably sourcing McCafé coffee and "sourcing a portion of its beef from its top 10 beef-sourcing countries from suppliers participating in sustainability programs" by 2020.
"We know quality choices are important to our customers, and this latest positive change to our classic burgers demonstrates our committed journey to leading with the customer and building a better McDonald's," Chris says.
