Matthew Perry's Autopsy Report Sheds More Light on His Passing

Matthew Perry's autopsy report has been released, and the official document includes further details on the actor's cause of death.
It was first reported that the Friends star passed away on Oct. 28, at the age of 54, after being found unresponsive in the hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home. His death, at the time, was suspected to have been caused from an apparent drowning, as no foul play was noted.
Perry's official cause of death was released by the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner on Friday, Dec. 15, revealing that the 17 Again actor passed away from "the acute effects of ketamine."
"Contributing factors in Mr. Perry’s death include drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder)," the update continued.
Following the DME's thorough investigation into the passing, the manner of death has been ruled an "accident."

In a summary of the autopsy report, the medical examiner noted, "54-year-old male with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema, diabetes, drug use in past-reportedly clean for 19 months."
"Heavy tobacco user for many years, but currently not smoking," the description added. "On ketamine infusion therapy with most recent therapy reportedly, one and a half weeks before death."
In preliminary findings released on Sunday, Oct. 29, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office updated its website report to confirm that an autopsy had been completed but the cause of death was "deferred," pending toxicology reports. It also noted that "other significant conditions" contributed to his death.
Last month, "a representative for the actor and a law enforcement source have both confirmed that a 9-1-1 call was placed at 4:07 p.m. local time and was treated as a water rescue by emergency services," per previous reports.

Most recently, even Zac Efron mentioned Perry during his Hollywood Walk of Fame speech, calling his former film costar "so kind," and remembering how he "really pushed [him] into the next chapter" of his career.
