Mary-Kate Olsen’s Hairstyle Is a Childhood Favorite We All Can Copy
Can pigtails be for adults? Can they be worn at formal events? Sure they can, according to Mary-Kate Olsen.
The 30-year-old is actually a big fan of the hairstyle — she’s been photographed a number of times wearing it. Just last November, she was spotted at a Knicks-Nets basketball game cozying up with her husband, Olivier Sarkozy, while wearing the famous ‘do, and more recently alongside her sister Ashley Olsen while at the 40th-anniversary Studio in a School event on Wednesday evening in New York City.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2015, the twins’ hairstylist, Mark Townsend, shared, “When I work with them, I defer to their impeccable sense of style. I just asked, ‘What are you thinking?’” Apparently, Mary-Kate wrote back one word: “Braids.”
All you need to do to get Mary-Kate’s adult pigtails are a rattail comb to create a part down the middle of your head and small rubber bands or elastic to secure the ends of each braid. Or you can even add a little trendy flair by twisting each braid up into a knot. Make sure to use a little holding spray to prevent flyaway hairs from escaping and to also add shine.
