How Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Star Marin Hinkle Got Ready for the Emmys
You would never guess that this was fashion stylist Micah Schifman's first time working with Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Marin Hinkle: their energy makes it seem like they've known each other forever. Schifman, who's worked with A-list celebrities like Diane Kruger and Sarah Silverman, shared that the month-and-a-half long process of creating Hinkle's Emmy Awards look resulted in exactly what the two had envisioned from day one - every stylist’s dream come true.
Hinkle stepped out onto the 2018 Emmy Awards golden carpet wearing a vibrant custom-made violet dress. The tulle and chiffon gown was designed by Oliver Tolentino, a local Los Angeles talent that Hinkle found. Dramatic Norman Silverman diamonds, strappy Stuart Weitzman heels, and an embellished Swarovski clutch added the finishing touches to Hinkle’s look.

The Vision
"I always like to do the opposite of what the character for which they’re nominated is doing on television. I want to show the real person rather than what America is used to seeing them in," Schifman said.
When it came to the dress, Hinkle was on the same page. "My character is very put together in a refined and controlled way. It’s a period show, so I really wanted to make sure I had a contemporary look. I also wanted to have something that was very flowy, artistic, and freeing," she shared.
The Gown
"We had been looking at all the designers and went through the gamut of everything that was available to us and in the end we weren’t finding the perfect thing," Schifman said. Hinkle ended up finding a local Los Angeles designer, Oliver Tolentino, and he created exactly what the two wanted.
"It was a really fun and collaborative process of putting it all together. It only took two fittings, which is really unheard of for a custom-made piece," Schifman said.
The Jewelry
As for the accessories, Schifman opted for Norman Silverman jewelry, which he's styled with many times before, and a simple Swarovski clutch. "The diamonds are just drop-dead gorgeous - they're unbelievable," he said.
Personal Touches
Hinkle was seen walking the red carpet with her fifteen-year-old son and it turns out that her choice of dress was also a nod to him.
"I’m taking my son as my date and he has love for the Greeks and the Romans, so I think there’s almost a little ode to that in what I’m wearing.”
The Shoes
When deciding on heels Stuart Weitzman was an obvious choice. "I call them the ‘nothing shoes’ because they almost feel like you’re not wearing anything," Schifman said. To keep the vibrant violet dress as the focus, Schifman dyed the heels and clutch to match.
Getting Ready
Before the big debut, Schifman helped Hinkle get ready in her Los Angeles hotel room. "I like the time before they walk out the door to be as calm and zen as possible. We’re having conversations, laughing, having a good time, maybe having a glass of champagne."
The actress was a vision in violet.
