Margot Robbie Looks Elegant in a Black Sequin Off-the-Shoulder Dress at the 2023 Oscars
Margot Robbie strayed far from Barbiecore this evening at the Academy Awards. After skipping the Oscars red carpet, the Babylon actress debuted her black off-the-shoulder sequin-covered gown on the Oscars stage while presenting with Morgan Freeman. She wore her hair down on a center part.
Robbie has no individual nominations, but her film Babylon is nominated tonight for production design, music, and costume design.
Robbie discussed her part as Nellie LaRoy in an interview with W released this January. It was not hard for her to step into the party girl's shoes, she said.
“Playing a crazy girl isn’t difficult for me,” she started with a laugh. “Back then, in the 1920s, there was more cocaine in L.A. than there is today. Thirty-year-olds were running the studios, and 20-year-olds were becoming millionaires. There were no rules—it was a completely new industry, and nothing was regulated. They had a lot of fun, a lot of partying. Nellie is at the center of that world. And she doesn’t wear a lot of clothing! One of the main costumes I wear in the film is overalls with no bra, no top, nothing—and no one loves dressing up more than me. Anytime I’m having a party, my friends say, ‘What’s the theme? We’re all going to have to dress up, aren’t we?’ Last year, I had a Love Island–themed birthday. Everyone had to dress as a contestant. There were a lot of fake tans, hair extensions, and acrylic nails.”
She also added in her own life, she is quite the party crasher. “Oh, I’ve crashed heaps of parties,” she said. “I crashed a wedding once, just to see how that would be. I had a great time.”
