Maren Morris and husband Ryan Hurd are splitting after five years of marriage.
In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, it's stated that Morris filed for divorce on Oct. 2, citing "irreconcilable differences." The outlet also notes that their separation date is listed as the same as the filing date, and the former couple has a prenup.
Morris and Hurd first met when they were paired to pen Tim McGraw's song "Last Turn Home" in 2013.
"We were both at different publishing companies, and our publishers’ job is to fill our calendars up, so they just randomly put us together on a write one day," she explained to People in 2017. Their romance wasn't immediate; they were friends for a couple of years before starting a relationship in 2015. They married on March 24, 2018, nearly a year after their engagement.
News of their divorce comes as a surprise as last month, Hurd showed his support for his estranged wife in an Instagram post following her comments about being disillusioned with Nashville's country music scene and her decision to step away from the genre.
The singer-songwriter shared that Morris "deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated." He added, "I'm so sick of watching my wife get the s--t kicked out of her by the internet. I'm sick of every talking head having some kind of stupid opinion about what she says. It’s the same every time, why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic, I'm sick of people getting rewarded for it. To me the Bridge is beautiful and so rock and roll."
Morris and Hurd have yet to release a statement following their separation.
