Madonna’s Daughter Lourdes Leon Gets Bullied by Internet Trolls for Her Armpit Hair
She may have thought she was just going on vacation, but Lourdes Leon just reignited the debate over women’s armpit hair.
After a photo of Madonna’s 20-year-old daughter showing off her armpit hair while lounging on the beach in Miami was widely circulated on the Internet, hundreds of commenters have weighed in with their own opinions on Leon’s body hair.

Trolls piled on the anti-body-hair comments. “Shave them pits girl,” one commenter wrote on the @justjared Instagram page. “Is that a new trend? Cuz I’m not in,” said another.
The silver lining? Many jumped to Leon’s defense (certainly more than she probably ever imagined would be waging an Instagram debate over her body hair.) “Maybe none of you men and woman have never noticed that arm pit hair is completely natural.. everyone has it.. just because she chooses to embrace hers doesn’t mean you need to a prude about it and judge,” one wrote.
Someone else shared, “What is wrong with you all? It’s just hair omg. You don’t like it, great???? get rid of it on your body! With her own body she can do whatever she wants. Like come on, there are so many things to be disgusted by in this world and her armpit hair really shouldn’t be one. She is clearly having fun, looking amazing, good for her????”
While another noted that although it’s often used as a feminist statement, body hair isn’t inherently a political act. “Her hair may symbolise anything but either way, i’m proud of her for appreciating and being comfortable with her natural hair-wherever they may grow,” she wrote.
Over the past few years, more young women are going natural with their pits. You may remember the “pit puff” trend of 2015, which had women dyeing their long armpit hair rainbow colors. More recently, 17-year-old Lalonie Davis was attacked on Instagram for a photo of her armpit hair and happy trail.
Leon isn’t even the only celebrity spawn to embrace her natural growth. Paris Jackson laughed off the stir her teeny pit puff caused. “I didn’t realize that people were going to get so upset over my armpit hair. I didn’t realize that was such an issue. It is so funny,” she said at the time. Other, equally trendy celebrities are even more proud of their pits. Jemima and Lola Kirke have both posted with armpit hair on display on the red carpet.
As the new generation of celebrities seems to already understand, there are no rules for how to treat your body — or your armpit hair. Shave it, grow it, dye it, or hey, why not braid it?
