Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Is Still Set to Happen This Year
Watching giant balloons and talented performers in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a time-honored Turkey Day tradition. If you were worried the parade would be cancelled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we've got some good news: Last week, Macy's announced that the Thanksgiving Day Parade is still set to happen this November... with some changes.
"For more than 90 years, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has kicked off the holiday season with its signature entertainment spectacle, making it one of the world's most beloved events," the company's website reads. "Following our successful, safe, and innovative, production of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, it is our intention to similarly reimagine Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this November."
So what will the reimagined parade look like this year? In a press conference last Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that he thinks everything is going to be different, when asked about the upcoming modified parade. "Some is going to be virtual, there might be some small in-person pieces, spread out pieces, it's not going to look at all of course like how we are used to. But the important thing is the traditions will be kept in some way," de Blasio said.
