Locals share how they’re beating the CSRA summer heat
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF) – It’s safe to say the start of summer in the CSRA can be described in three words: it is hot.
At Riverview Park, they’re playing on the playground and getting soaked at the splash pad. But you don’t need to tell them what they already know.
“It’s hot out here. It’s hot, hot,” said Lizzie Avery.
The kids are more concerned about having a good time, and some parents joining in–saying a little fun in the water is just what they needed.
“This park helps, you know. I came here really hot, and now I’m feeling a little cool–maybe a little bit too cold. But yeah, it’s just the difference in temperature before you get in the water and when you get in the water, it feels great,” said Yemi Adeleke.
Our VIPIR-6 Alert Team expects temperatures to stay in the mid to upper 90s for the rest of the week.
That’s why others say they’re finding more ways to beat the heat–while still having a blast.
“Obviously just getting in the water, trying to stay hydrated as well. But you know, just getting out here, staying in the shade when we need to, and playing in the water and having fun,” said Drew Dickerson.
“It’s very important to get out and have a good time with your kids even when it’s hot. So when it’s hot, it’s probably wise to find somewhere with water!”
Here are a few tips from our VIPIR-6 Alert Team:
Stay indoors in air conditioning whenever possible
If your home does not have air conditioning, check if your area has a cooling center
Remain hydrated by drinking water and avoiding alcohol
Check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and the elderly
If you must go outdoors, go early or late in the day, and dress in light-colored clothing
Doctors have also provided tips to protect your skin during this summer heat wave.
