Lizzo celebrates working out in shorts for the first time: 'I accept myself'
Lizzo is celebrating a personal win and sharing it with her TikTok followers, posting a video of her workout outfit which includes a pair of biker shorts.
"Stop the presses. Everybody, stop the f***ing presses," the singer said in a video posted on Friday. "I’m working out in shorts."
The 33-year-old showed off the black bra and spandex shorts that she put on for the day's workout, explaining that it was a first for her. "Now let me tell you, I was always too insecure to work out, or not insecure, but too self-conscious to work out in shorts," she said. "But today I'm working out in shorts."
She went on to explain that "Not much has changed physically about myself. But a lot has changed here, mentally, here, emotionally. I accept myself."
The message is a powerful one coming from the body-positive advocate who has spoken about being body-shamed both for being overweight and for participating in a 10-day detox. She's even posted workout videos on TikTok to address those who call her unhealthy based on her appearance.
"Stop scrolling and grab your thighs or your belly or your arms and tell your body you love it! Whether you do squats or not ur perfect just as u are," she captioned one.
Still, despite the work that she's done to make body positivity a mainstream movement, Lizzo has admitted to having "negative thoughts" about her body along the way.
"Celebrate how far you've come!" she captioned her recent. "Even if it ain't far to some!"
