Liquid nitrogen ice cream chain once pitched on 'Shark Tank' coming to Fort Collins
Looking for a less traditional ice cream experience?
Sub Zero Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream — part ice cream shop, part science experiment — has set its eyes on Fort Collins with plans to open a shop at 1501 W. Elizabeth St. in Campus West this fall.
The Utah-based ice cream chain uses liquid nitrogen to make more than 100 variations of ice cream, frozen yogurt and Italian ice to order in front of customers. It freezes anything from ice cream milk and oat milk to yogurt and sugar water in roughly 30 seconds, Fort Collins franchisee Kenny Haap told the Coloradoan. It also offers a variety of mix-ins.

Sub Zero Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream founders Jerry and Naomi Hancock pitched the business on a 2013 episode of ABC's "Shark Tank." While the show's "shark" investors didn't bite, Sub Zero has grown to include more than 40 locations, Haap said. The Fort Collins shop will be the chain's first in Colorado.
