Lewis County farmers markets soon opening for the season
May 22—This weekend is Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer, and with summer comes local farmers markets and farm stands.
Markets in Carthage and Harrisville are opening this weekend.
CARTHAGE FARMERS MARKET
The Carthage Farmers Market, under the direction of the Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce, is held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays starting this week and running until Sept. 27 at the Farmers Market Pavilion, Riverside Drive, Carthage.
"The Carthage area is excited about opening our market this Friday," said Tina Lanier, chamber president and interim market director. "There are many returning vendors and new vendors. As the chamber president, I am honored to open the market this Friday. Make sure you come and enjoy the opening day and make sure you stop by and say hi to me at the chamber booth."
Market vendors sell produce, meats, soaps and crafts. This year there will be food trucks with offering Mexican cuisine and hamburgers and hot dogs.
Adjacent to the Black River and Long Falls Park, there is space to have lunch with items purchased from the market.
New vendors are welcome but must apply and be approved through the Farmers Market committee.

HARRISVILLE FARMERS MARKET
There has been a change of venue for the Harrisville Farm, Craft and Flea Market. It is now located at Phil Hathaway's Field, 7497 Route 3, Harrisville.
According to market manager Laura LaPlantney there is plenty of parking and variety.
"We have something for everyone — crafts, flowers, plants, vegetables — we'll find something for anyone," she said. "We are looking forward to seeing people stopping to visit."
The market's opening day will be Saturday and continue every weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 29.

LOWVILLE FARM & CRAFT MARKET
Where: Forest Park Pavilion, Lewis County Fairgrounds, 5485 Bostwick St., Lowville
When: Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 through Oct. 12; the market normally relocates during the week of the Lewis County Fair.

The market consists of locally grown produce, packaged meats, baked goods, goat cheese and products along with cheese curd and milk, honey and maple syrup. Many homemade crafts along with plants and flowers.
LYONS FALLS FARMERS MARKET
Where: Park Pavilion, Riverside Park, 6904 Laura St., Lyons Falls
When: The market will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday; June 11 to Oct. 1.

The Lyons Falls Farmers Market, organized by Lyons Falls ALIVE, has a variety of vendors and several nonprofits with booths offering free information about their services.
Lunch will be available for purchase from the Lyons Falls Fire Department at the park from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekly.
The market accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program EBT cards. The market also participates in Fresh Connect NYS coupons. Stop by the market booth for additional information.
LEWIS COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL FARMERS MARKET
