Letter from the Editor: ‘Tis the season to be jolly, but also be very concerned about democracy
Getting all my holiday shopping done by December 3rd? Check. Writing and editing an avalanche of a gift guides (we’ve got everything for everyone: Jane the Virgin fans, unashamed millennial pink lovers, gifts you honestly just want to give yourself — and we’ve got waaay more coming)? Check. Reporting the stories of brave women (and some men) who have come forward about sexual predators in media and politics (as well as processing this ourselves and having the privilege and honor to publish the thought-provoking essays that have come our way in the aftermath)? Check, check, check. November was a long month that went by quickly. Time is a weird, abstract thing I will never understand.
And now that December is here, we have even more on our minds. Such as Trump’s new tax plan and how it’ll effect us (this effects literally all U.S. citizens, so read up if you don’t know what’s going to happen to your money and who’s going to get ahold of it). All the movies that are out this month you have to see (I highly recommend Lady Bird and The Disaster Artist — although I’m sure the new Star Wars will be epic). WTF is happening to Michael Flynn and will this finally be enough to get Trump impeached. Do we actually live in a democracy anymore? Is the new GlamGlow glitter mask worth it? (Spoiler: It is.)
We plan on covering it all this month, and then some. Happy holidays, HG sisters.
