Legends & Lore grant program seeking applications
Apr. 7—CHARLESTON — The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is seeking applications for its Legends and Lore Marker Grant Program. These markers highlight folktales, legends, and folklife, which include stories, customs, traditions, and expressive arts passed down in communities or by groups. Historical events, purely literary creations, and personal family stories do not qualify for the marker program. Applications can be submitted through April 29.
Qualifying applicants include nonprofit academic institutions, 501(c)(3) organizations, and local, state, and federal entities based within the United States. Legends & Lore is currently available in the following 14 states: Alabama, Connecticut, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia.
The West Virginia Folklife Program encourages interested organizations or individuals to reach out to discuss the application process. Applications must be submitted by April 29 and successful applicants will be notified in August 2024. The application window is opened twice a year, with the next opportunity beginning on Aug, 26.
