Lebanon Area Fair 2024: Here are all the exhibitions and live music to see this year
The Lebanon Area Fair, which sees over 40,000 visitors each year, kicks off Saturday, July 20 and lasts until July 27. The fair is much more than just fried foods and amusement rides. Between live entertainment and exhibitions from area farmers and makers, there's plenty to do and see all week long.
Several live performances and activities will recur throughout the week, such as Eudora Farms Petting Zoo and the Victoria Circus, which has shows scheduled for 4, 7 and 9 p.m. July 20, 21 and 27 and shows scheduled for 7 and 9 p.m. every weekday during the fair.
The Lebanon Area Fair & Special Olympics Car and Tractor show begins at 10 a.m. on the opening day of the fair. The talent show will be held at the Pavillion starting at 6:30 on Monday, July 22.
Outdoor exhibitions will be held throughout the week beginning on Sunday, July 21, with contestants showing off their best in various livestock contests.
Indoor exhibitions, where everything from fruits and vegetables to arts and photography are presented, will be on view after they're judged on July 20, after 4 p.m.
The specialty baking contests will be held on July 22, with winners being announced at 2 p.m.
Rachel Siegel, chairperson of indoor exhibits, said that this year they’ve expanded their offerings in some categories to better allow children to enter and compete against one another, rather than having them compete with more experienced adults.
"One of the things we've added for this year's fair is more offerings in our youth department," she said. "So we have 4-H, which is open to kids that are enrolled in 4-H projects, we have open, which is open to anybody regardless of age, and then we have youth, which is for people younger than 19."
They've also adapted the home maker of the year contest, a multidisciplinary contest requiring entrants to provide a number of home-made items, to children with the mini-maker contest.
Siegel said that she hopes to see many fairgoers come to see the indoor exhibits, as many local crafters and artists in the area spend hours to deliver impressive work each year, which not only wins local awards, but has received state and national recognition.
"We have some very beautiful things to come and see," she said. "It's nice if you come and see work of someone that you know, exhibitors love when neighbors and friends say, hey, I saw your stuff at the fair, that kind of makes it worthwhile for them. It's all a part of the experience of visiting and participating in the fair."
The last day to enter into an exhibit is July 5.
