Laverne Cox already wins for best 2019 Emmys accessory with this meaningful clutch
We love a celeb who uses their platform for good, and Laverne Cox is no stranger to using her fame to bring attention to important issues. The Orange Is the New Black star achieved her third nomination at the 2019 Emmys, and while her massive tulle gown had people turning heads on the red carpet, it was her rainbow box clutch that caught our attention.
Cox’s bag, which she showed off to the cameras and during red carpet interviews, had a very important message.
The rainbow clutch read: “Oct. 8th, Title VII, Supreme Court.”
October 8th marks the date when the Supreme Court will hear arguments in favor of an addition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The court will listen to the arguments and decide whether LGBTQ employment discrimination is sex discrimination, something that would be a pivotal moment in the LGBTQ community.

Cox brought Chase Strangio, an ACLU staff attorney, to the star-studded 2019 Emmys as her date, too. She let him have the spotlight to explain the motion for better equality in the workplace.
According to Cox, her third Emmy nomination was “an incredible blessing,” causing her to think deeper about why she was there. “I thought there has to be a bigger reason,” she told E! News on the red carpet. “I thought maybe it’s about this case.”
