Laura Dern took home her first Oscar for her role in Marriage Story, and she sported glamorous old Hollywood waves as she accepted her award. Her secret weapon? A $24 dry shampoo, which ensured her hair looked perfectly coiffed all night long.
“Laura, her stylist, and the Armani team decided on this stunning pale pink and black embroidered gown. As a team, we all decided the 1960s aesthetic of the gown would perfectly lend itself to complementary 60s vibes hair and makeup,” says hair stylist Ryan Trygstad. “I decided on a half back look with a swooping bang, keeping Laura’s hair behind her shoulders to expose her long, beautiful neck and to spotlight the details on the gown.”
Ryan prepped Laura’s hair with a quarter-sized pump of Redken Extreme Play Safe ($24) which helped protect her locks from heat damage. He then blew out her mane using a round brush and curled the ends for a ‘60s inspired look. Next, he softly pulled back the top section and secured in the back for an elegant, half-up look.
Next comes Ryan’s hero product: A few spritzes of Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo at the roots and face-framing pieces for touchable volume. “My key product for this look is Redken’s Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to absorb any excess product and add a touch of volume at the roots,” he says. “Imagine a modern-day 1960s belle de jour California girl, spending her summer in Italy. It’s classic glam with a mix of Laura’s California roots.”
He finished off the look by running a wide-toothed comb from roots to ends to soften, adding a few spritzes of Redken Triple Pure 32 Hairspray ($24) for hold without the crunch.
