Latest Fayetteville food openings, closings and chains eyeing new locations: Get the list
The Fayetteville restaurant scene saw the loss of a longtime downtown restaurant last month.
Among the other comings and goings were the opening of a Cliffdale Road pizza joint, plans for a farmers market on the north side, new life for the old Church’s Chicken and three chains eyeing new Fayetteville-area locations.
Here’s a look at the latest.
Closed: Huske Hardware Restaurant & Brewing Co.
Downtown restaurant and brewery, Huske Hardware, closed without notice April 18.
The closure comes as the space on Hay Street where the restaurant operated and an adjacent building that was once home to a boutique were listed for sale at $4.6 million.

Open: Barry’s Pizzeria
Fayetteville’s west side gained a locally owned pizza spot when Barry’s Pizzeria opened March 23 at 8200 Cliffdale Road, Suite 104. Besides pies, the restaurant serves appetizers, salad and pasta.
Business hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Coming soon: Teriyaki Express
A former Church’s Chicken on Yadkin Road in Fayetteville has been vacant since it closed early last year.
Teriyaki Express is moving into the 2,664-square-foot building in the Ponderosa Shopping Center at the corner of Yadkin Road and Bonanza Drive, about a mile outside the Yadkin gate to Fort Liberty.
Seafood will be the focus of the new restaurant, property owner Joe Riddle of Riddle Commercial Properties said last month.
Coming soon: Jackson Family Farms market
Jackson Family Farms owner Brent Jackson said last month that he hopes to open a 2,250-square-foot store at the corner of Ramsey Street and Country Club Drive this fall.
The .65-acre parcel at 3403 Ramsey St., next to a Dunkin and Baskin Robbins and across the street from Crown Fried Chicken, has been vacant for years. Soon, it will be home to a farmers market, nursery and gift shop, Jackson said.
Coming soon: Freddy’s
Freddy’s Frozen Custard is slated to open a second Fayetteville location at 2860 Hope Mills Road this fall, according to a news release from the company.
Construction recently began on the vacant parcel between Sonic and Fit4Life Health Club. The freestanding restaurant will be nearly 3,000 square feet, with seating for 92 guests, a patio and a drive-thru.
Planned: Cook Out on Skibo Road
Plans were submitted to the city on March 20 to convert the former Boston Market at 1909 Skibo Road into a Cook Out. Documents show a proposed addition of two drive-thru lanes to the 3,000-square-foot building, situated on a .8-acre outparcel in Cross Pointe Center, across Morganton Road from Cross Creek Mall.
A subsidiary of the restaurant chain also bought two other local properties about three years ago. Cook Out may be eyeing locations at the former KFC at 3002 Raeford Road in Fayetteville and the former Country Fish Fry at 3416 N. Main St. in Hope Mills.
Planned: Starbucks on Owen Drive
Starbucks submitted plans to the city last month for a 1,400-square-foot freestanding location near the intersection of Boone Trail Extension and Owen Drive, between an Exxon gas station and an ABC liquor store.
The proposed location, slated for a parcel of a current parking lot, would have a drive-thru and about a dozen parking spaces.
