‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ Brings Home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series
The Emmys is awarding another spectacular talk show with a highly coveted honor.
Tonight, television’s biggest stars walked the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles in honor of the 71st annual Emmy Awards. During the ceremony, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver claimed the statuette for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.
The show was up against The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The Outstanding Variety Talk Series category hasn’t been around for very long. In fact, it was originally called Outstanding Variety Series, though it was later separated into two different categories in 2015: Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and Outstanding Variety Talk Series.
Previous winners include Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Well done, indeed.
