Pedro Pascal isn't treading lightly.
The Last of Us season 1 has already hit the ground running, keeping viewers on their toes with every passing minute. On January 22, Pedro shared a glimpse of what to expect from season 1 by posting an Instagram video that teased upcoming scenes. "Violins ?? #TheLastofUs tonight on @hbo & @hbomax," the caption read.
That preview includes Joel and Ellie journeying to complete their missions while meeting new characters, like one played by Nick Offerman, and reuniting with old, as viewers see Tommy (Gabriel Luna) again.
The Last of Us fans went through several emotions while watching it all unfold but ultimately begged for more. "Stop with the teasers. Just give us all the episodes!!" one person wrote in the comments section.
What's more, actress Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, shared her own response to Pedro's post. "????," she added.
On the other hand, those familiar with the story's origin felt unease about the upcoming episodes. "Feeling sick to my stomach. I’m not ready for what’s to come," a different fan said. "OH MY GOD, THE LAST SHOT ??????," another chimed in.
That moment in question? In Pedro's Instagram video, it's a mere second that dramatically pans from Joel's feet as he inches further into a room, then to him stoically aiming a gun. Adding to the suspense of it all, Joel is heard saying: "There's no halfway with this. We finish what we started." Folks believe this shot alludes to a hospital scene from the video game. Let's just say it sounds emotional.
*Potential spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 1 finale*
Based on that insight alone, we can expect the series to follow the video game sequence: The epic finale concludes with Joel successfully bringing Ellie to the Fireflies only to discover their plans to extract the mutant strain from her brain to create a vaccine will kill her. Joel, now with a father-like tie to her, leaves a bloody (!) trail on his way to rescue Ellie.
Seems like a tumultuous season ahead. According to HBO, time will tell all once the season finale premieres on March 13. What's more, now that The Last of Us has secured an early renewal for second 2 all signs are pointing that there's a lot more to look forward to. Until then, you can catch new episodes of The Last of Us season 1 every Sunday at 9 PM ET.
