Laney Museum to hold Summer Sewing Sessions
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — The Laney Museum is kicking off its first Sewing Sessions this summer, honoring the sewing skills taught at Miss Laney’s school, Haines Normal and Industrial Institute, back in the early 1900s. Augusta native Noel Corbin, a Fashion Educator and Black Fashion Curator, will teach the classes.
There are 8 sessions, each with two classes lasting three hours. Students will make small pillows, tote bags, and simple garments using sewing patterns.
Sessions are on June 12/13, June 19/20, July 10/11, and July 17/18. Mornings, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, are for Middle and High School students. Evenings, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., are called Sip and Sew. Each session costs $15 to register.
Call the Museum at (706) 724-3576 to register.
