Kylie Minogue Wore “Padam Padam” Red to Win Her Second Grammy

In the middle of getting ready for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, Kylie Minogue received word she had already won. “I was like, ‘Yes! Thankfully, I’m wearing ‘Padam’ red today!” she tells Harper’s Bazaar, ahead of the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles yesterday. Although she had only just made it into hair and makeup, the perfectly “Padam Padam” red dress was waiting on the hanger for her to hit the red carpet.
This is the second Grammy of Minogue’s career and the first to be awarded in the brand new category of Best Pop Dance Recording. It was a stacked group of nominees including Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, Troye Sivan, Bebe Rexha, and David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray.
“[Winning this new category] is just the cherry on top of the cake, because it's what I've been doing for such a long time. I think I inhabit this category and to take the inaugural Grammy for Best Pop Dance Recording is poetic in my opinion, and I couldn't be more thrilled,” she says
For music's biggest night, the Australian pop icon wore a custom red satin corset gown featuring a dramatic chiffon cape from Dolce & Gabbana. The red satin sandals, also Dolce & Gabbana, have traveled around the world in her luggage for a few months now, but she felt they were the perfect pair for this dress. She also wore earrings and a statement ring from Martin Katz, ultimately wanting to keep the jewels “somewhat subtle” to complement the gown. The overall look was styled by Frank Strachan. For glam, she opted for a fresh makeup look with a red lip that “brought the look to life.”
In 2004, she won Best Pop Dance Recording for “Come Into My World” from her album, Fever. “People have been posting my Grammy win from 20 years ago, and there's a real synergy between that look and [this one], which I think I was only partially aware of,” she says. “I mean, obviously I didn't know if I would win the Grammy when we were thinking about this! But there's just a wonderful kind of bookend look and feel to the two Grammy moments.”
Although she’s hardly a red carpet novice, she admits it’s hard to find a pre-show ritual amidst all the chaos. “I’d love to be able to say that I sit and have a moment, or have a glass of champagne, but it’s always a bit of a scramble,” she says. “But it does take a village for all of the elements to work in harmony with each other, so we do have a group acknowledgement that’s like, ‘Okay, here we go!’”
