Like many women, I feel like I've tried every kind of diet under the sun, with the exception of the 5-day reset from Kroma Wellness. I used to have a goal weight in mind, but nowadays I'm more focused on eating things that are good for my body. However, I've admittedly been trying to shed a few pounds to no avail. Despite daily exercise and a fairly balanced diet, any weight-loss I've attempted seems to have plateaued. This is what sparked my interest in Kroma Wellness, a company offering a "Whole Body Reset and Superfood Nutrition." Here's what happened on my 5-Day journey!

Kroma Wellness: What is it?

Kroma Wellness offers several whole-body reset programs and "superfood nutrition" products like teas, elixirs, broths, smoothies, snacks, and more. The brand views food as medicine and relies on Mother Nature to "naturally fuel [the] mind, body, and soul." Superfoods free of cane sugar, fillers, dairy, gluten, and GMOs are a mainstay for Kroma. So are adaptogens and other nutrient-dense foods and herbs.

Kroma's 5-Day Reset is simple and eliminates the guesswork. You're sent a box with your five-day meal plan. Each day is segmented and comes with nine color-coded packets. These are your meals and supplements to be consumed throughout the day.

There are lattes, smoothies, porridges, and bone broths, all of which can be adjusted and added to depending on your health goals. For example, I added almond milk to my lattes, smoothies, and porridges. I also incorporated proteins and veggies into my broths because for me, the 1,050 calories each day wasn't going to cut it.

I've learned through trial and error that calorie restrictions can cause the body's metabolism to slow down. This makes it easier to regain weight when all is said and done.

Much like this review, the Kroma site emphasizes how this program is about "NOURISHMENT" and "not about starvation and deprivation." Always consult with a doctor before beginning any kind of cleanse or diet program.

As Kroma advisor Dr. Will Cole, IFMCP, DNM/DC, Southern CA University points out on the site, "the Kroma Reset is customizable to your health goals and shows you what it feels like to feed your body right so you can make the best choices for you, even as you move beyond the 5 days."

Kroma Protocols: Lifestyle, Lean, and Active

Kroma's 5-Day Reset is extremely customizable based on your goals, health needs, and activity level. The Lifestyle protocol is for those looking to lose a few pounds, create better habits, or "feel better overall." This is the most limited of the protocols — essentially you consume all of the packets each day and limit foods outside of the program.

The Lean protocol is designed to "accelerate weight loss and promote a deeper elimination diet ... without compromising energy or vitality." According to the guide book that comes with the reset, you may not need to finish everything in the Lean protocol, but it also recommends adding veggies to the daily broths if you "feel you need more."

The third and final protocol option for Kroma's 5-Day Reset is the Active protocol (the one I chose to follow). This appears to be the most flexible and allows for "adding whatever you need including extra protein, nuts, avocado, and coconut cream."

Regardless of the protocol you choose to follow, you'll need a few things to get started, including:

  • Non-dairy milk

  • Frozen and fresh fruits and vegetables

  • Fresh berries (for porridge)

  • Olive oil and/or ghee

  • Protein (for Lifestyle and Active protocols)

Kroma Wellness Review

Before starting the Kroma 5-Day reset, I read through the entire guide and downloaded the app, which has helpful tips and tricks plus a fasting timer so you can remember what time you start and break your fast each day. If you're not sure which protocol is right for you, there's a quiz in the Kroma app to help you choose based on your goals and health needs.

When completing the 5-Day reset, I made a few modifications:

  1. I added protein and veggies to my broths to make this reset more sustainable after it was over because, as Kroma says, "you should never feel starved or depleted."

  2. I consumed a balanced dinner each night and treated the broths more as a snack.

  3. My fast began at 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. each night and didn't eat again until 12 hours later.

Day 1 of Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset

I started my day with the Beauty Matcha Latte and Super Porridge, which I added the suggested 5-10 berries to so it was more substantial. I enjoyed both! The Matcha Latte has ginger in it, which gave it a spicy quality, but I also added collagen for a protein boost like I normally would with coffee. The porridge was full of seeds and different plant proteins, so I felt full when I was done despite the 52 gram serving.

I'm someone who typically drinks a lot of water each day (I usually have 100 oz.), but Kroma suggests having at least two more glasses/bottles of water. So, I've been super mindful of getting more water in.

Later, I had the Cranberry Hydration Elixir before a tabata-style rowing workout and 2-mile walk. It didn't do much for me in the way of energy, but it was a nice change of pace from water!

The Vanilla Cinnamon Plant-based Smoothie served as my post-workout snack. When it came time for lunch, I added some leftover chicken breast to my Chicken Bone Broth to make it more substantial. Later I had the Supergreens Elixir and Ultimate Vitality Latte along with a scoop of the OMG Cookie Butter. You can buy this separately and I would absolutely recommend/buy more of after this!

Before dinner, I needed a snack. I turned to a handful of shelled pistachios and a That's It Fruit Bar. These are Whole 30-approved snacks, so I figured they were fine. I also had the Beef Bone Broth packet that was supposed to be my meal. But as I mentioned, I'm looking for results that are sustainable, so I'm eating dinner each day.

I am being mindful of what I'm eating and trying to stick to clean ingredients. For what it's worth, I did eat 3/4 what I'd normally eat for dinner (probably that bone broth beforehand!).

I almost forgot to have the Calming + Restore Magnesium before starting my fast, so I guzzled that down quickly instead of my usual Sleepy Time Tea or Sleepy Girl Mocktail. Overall, I didn't feel too depleted. Kroma says Day 2 is the hardest of the reset, but I'm trying not to let that predetermine how tomorrow goes.

Day 2 of Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset

Dya 2 started off strong. I didn't wake up starving. But I did wake up about an hour before I was supposed to break my fast. Distracting myself with things around the house and checking emails made that time pass quickly. For breakfast I had the porridge and matcha latte combo, adding raspberries in to the oatmeal for added satisfaction.

Today's workout was a more labor-intensive 25-minute strength training, so I had the recommended tablespoon of the OMG Cookie Butter for fuel beforehand, then water and the Hydration Elixir during my workout. Since I lifted weights, I added some extra vanilla protein powder to the Blueberry Acai Plant Protein Smoothie post-workout along with some Creatine from Sports Research.

Both today and yesterday, I've admittedly felt a little scatterbrained. But I'm attributing that to the decrease in caffeine and carbohydrates (the brain and body's main source of energy) in my diet.

Lunch was the Veggie Broth with Miso + Plant Protein, which was only 70 calories and 7 grams of protein. Since I worked out, I definitely needed to modify. I prepared it with Chicken Bone Broth and added in some leftover chicken breast and fresh broccoli to give it a bit more oomph.

At this point in the day I wanted something sweet. Normally I'd have a granola bar, but I opted for the greens and a Chomps Beef Stick. Later, I had the Spicy Passion Latte with almond milk and a serving of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides for an added protein source.

I've found I'm not really loving the taste of the greens, but I have a plan for them in Day 3.

Dinner was the Chicken Bone Broth, then a serving of London broil and roasted zucchini. I finished the day with the Calming + Restore Magnesium serving, then began my fast at 7 p.m.

Day 3 of Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset

Day 3 started with another Matcha Latte and Porridge. Before my workout (a cycle class) I had the Cranberry Hydration Elixir, mostly because I felt like I didn't drink enough water to get me through the workout.

That plan I mentioned for the greens? It didn't work. I combined them with my post-workout Cacao-Banana Plant-Based Shake (which is currently sold out) and a Fairlife Core Power Elite Protein Shake thinking it would mask the vitamin-y taste of the greens, but it didn't really.

Alas, that shake held me over until lunch, which was another broth made with bone broth and a paleo-friendly chicken sausage for extra protein.

Kroma's guide packet and the app led me to believe Day 2 was the hardest, but I felt the most tired mid-way through Day 3, which should otherwise be the "Activate and Thrive" portion of the journey. I'll note that I didn't detox my body of caffeine for the recommended five days prior to cleansing (I couldn't wait to share my experience with all of you!). This could be one of the reasons I hit that mid-day slump at this point in the game.

Two scoops of Cookie Butter and my Vitality Latte served as my mid-afternoon pick-me-up. I didn't feel like I needed an extra snack today like I did yesterday. Progress!

Of course, dinner started with a broth and was followed with a salad topped with veggies, homemade blue cheese dressing (using mostly organic ingredients), and Just Bare Chicken Strips.

I found myself super hungry the night of Day 3, but I think that's because I had dinner around 5 p.m. and started my fast at the usual 7 p.m., but didn't go to bed until around 10 p.m. I usually go to sleep earlier, giving myself a little less time to think about being hungry. But I'll also usually snack post-dinner while we're watching television, so my body might just be adjusting to the new time restraints I'm feeding it within.

Day 4 of Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset

The routine continued today with the porridge (with almond milk and berries added) plus the matcha latte (with almond milk and collagen) for breakfast. A busy morning led me to neglect the Hydration Elixir and smoothie. Instead, I went right for lunch and had the Veggie Broth with Plant Protein. Because I'm me, I added an Amylu Caramelized Onion & Gouda Chicken Burger to my meal.

Later in the afternoon, I had the Vitality Latte, then the shake of the day and Cranberry Elixir. I decided to forego the greens today. I felt satisfied enough with what I had and I don't really dig the taste. The protein shake was almost skipped too. However, I decided to have that before another early dinner of flounder, zucchini, and vegetable tots.

I skipped the dinner broth and the magnesium drink as well. I'll have them at the ready when the program is over!

Day 5 of Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset

I'm almost out of the OMG Cookie Butter, which I decided to add to my usual porridge on this final day of the reset. I skipped out on the Matcha Latte and had the Hydration Elixir mid-morning just for a change of pace. After my workout (a row), I had the protein shake with a few add-ins including more protein, creatine, and some PB2.

Lunch was similar to yesterdays: an Amylu chicken patty and bone broth. But instead of the usual bone broth/bone broth combo, I made it with water. I felt super full after lunch, too!

Once again, I skipped the greens, but I did partake in the Vitality Latte in the afternoon. Pre-dinner I had the other bone broth, then a slice of pizza from a family-owned eatery as my meal. I decided to have the magnesium drink before bed tonight to serve as the cherry on top of this journey.

Kroma Wellness 5-Day Reset Results

I'm happy to report after five days, I feel leaner, albeit exhausted. I don't see myself giving up caffeine for good anytime in the near future, but I'm happy with the results.

I've lost 2.6 pounds and my BMI went down slightly (I have the Etekcity Apex Smart Bluetooth BMI Fitness Scale). This is super encouraging! For one, it means I'm on a sustainable weight loss path. By making a few better-for-me swaps throughout this week and more closely monitoring what I ate outside of the reset, I feel confident I'll continue to do so.

Another reason the weight loss, albeit slight, is encouraging is because it isn't drastic weight loss. And I didn't want it to be. The Lean protocol would have probably resulted in more dramatic weight loss. But by the end of the weekend when normal eating resumed, I'm sure that weight would have come back.

There are a few products I can see adding to my eating habits in the future. If I had to pick one product to recommend from Kroma, it would be the OMG Cookie Butter. It's now a staple in my pantry — I'm truly obsessed. I also really enjoyed all of the broths Kroma Wellness offers. Kroma's Lattes are another thing I really enjoyed throughout this reset!

The only thing I could really live without is the greens. I didn't love the taste and found myself chugging them just to get the nutrients in.
