Judy Blume has written more than two dozen books during her career, which spans more than five decades. Perhaps her most famous, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, is being turned into a movie.
The sure-to-be-smash flick, out this spring, will follow a similar coming-of-faith-and-age plotline as Blume's timeless young adult novel. The official trailer recently dropped, and it features a pair of highly familiar faces like Rachel McAdams, who plays Margaret's (Abby Ryder Fortson) mom and Kathy Bates, who brings the laughs as Margaret's grandmother.

Yes—or at least it will be. Judy Blume's book, Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, published in 1970. This spring, it'll make its big-screen debut as a movie written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, the screenwriter for Edge of Seventeen.

The Judy Blume book-turned-movie follows Margaret Simon, a sixth-grader. Margaret's mother, Barbara (McAdams), is Christian, and her father, Herb (Benny Safdie), is Jewish. Margaret seeks to solve her faith-based issues while also navigating typical middle-school-like relationships and puberty.

Abby Ryder Forston will bring the iconic character, Margaret, to life. If she looks familiar, that's because Fortson has appeared in some other notable projects. Fortson had a seven-episode arch in Transparent. Her big screen credits include Cassie Lang in Marvel Comics flicks Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and was young C.J. in tearjerker A Dog's Journey (2019).
Rachel McAdams as Barbara Simon
Rachel McAdams has produced a decades-long acting career and plays Margaret's Christian mom, Barbara. You can see McAdams in the trailer doing typical mom (and daughter-in-law) things—doing a double-take when Margaret mentions a bra, volunteering for roles at her daughter's school and listening to her mother-in-law, played by Kathy Bates.
McAdams became a household name in 2004 with roles in Mean Girls and The Notebook. She earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as journalist Sacha Pfeiffer in Spotlight (2015).

Benny Safdie has worked behind and in front of the camera as a film director, screenwriter and actor. In Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, he takes on the role of Margaret's father, Herb, who is Jewish. In the trailer, you can see the city-turned-suburb Herb struggling with a lawnmower.
Kathy Bates as Sylvia Simon
Kathy Bates, who has an Academy Award, two Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmys to her name, will play Margaret's grandmother, Sylvia. From the trailer, it looks like Bates will provide comedic relief.
"I read that when you don't have any loved ones around, your life expectancy drops drastically, but, you know, I've had a good run," she can be seen dryly quipping during a phone call with McAdams' Barbara.
Elle Graham as Nancy Wheeler
Elle Graham will appear as Nancy Wheeler, Margaret's neighbor and friend who seems to know oh-so-much about topics like bras and boys. She is part of a secret club called the Teen Sensations, and you need a bra to join.

No, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret is currently only set for a theatrical release on April 28. Lionsgate has an exclusive deal to stream movies with Roku, so that's where it'll probably end up eventually once its theatrical window closes.
