The King of Sweden Removes Royal Titles from His Five Grandchildren
The Swedish palace has announced that the children of Princess Madeleine and royal zaddy Prince Carl Philip no longer have royal titles.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's five grandchildren were previously known as princes and princesses.
The move mirrors the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to raise baby Archie Mountbatten-Windsor without a royal title.
Big changes are afoot in Sweden with the announcement that King Carl XVI Gustaf's grandchildren no longer have royal titles.
People reported, "While they will remain members of the royal family, they have lost their official HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles." This means that the children of Princess Madeleine and her husband, Christopher O'Neill, and the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia will no longer be required to perform royal duties, nor will they be referred to as princes or princesses. It's the end of an era.
Per an official palace statement, "His Majesty The King has decided on changes to The Royal House." It continued, "His Majesty The King has decided that the children of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and the children of Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O'Neill will no longer be members of The Royal House."
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry similarly decided against requesting a royal title for Archie upon his birth, instead deciding to raise him without the pressures of being a prince. As a result, Archie carries the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, with BAZAAR's royal editor-at-large Omid Scobie confirming via Twitter that Meghan and Harry's decision was "all part of giving him as normal a life as possible."
