Feminists call out Kellyanne Conway after she reportedly accuses Nancy Pelosi of not being 'pro-woman'
An alleged clash between White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday has Twitter reeling.
After President Trump broke up a meeting with the Democrat leader in a fury over her claims that he is involved in a “cover-up,” Conway reportedly asked Pelosi if she had a response to Trump’s statements.
But Pelosi reportedly shut her down, saying she would talk to “the president, not the staff."
At that moment, aides say that an offended Conway shot back “Wow, that’s really pro-woman of you” in a dig at Pelosi’s support of women’s rights. (The exact quotes vary according to different news outlets, though the exchange has been confirmed by multiple sources.)
After Trump abruptly left legislative leaders meeting today, Kellyanne Conway asked Pelosi if she wanted to respond to what Trump had said. "I'll respond to the president, not staff," Pelosi said. "Wow, that's really pro-woman of you," Kellyanne Conway said back, per aides.

But critics are saying that Conway has no right to play the feminism card given her work with Trump.
Kellyanne Conway accused Nancy Pelosi of all people of not being “pro-woman” while Conway works for the admin that’s leading the most anti-choice movement in modern political history. Irony is so dead we’ll have to identify it using dental records.

This is a go-to move for Conway, who’s cried sexism - where it isn’t - when she feels cornered or slighted. https://t.co/wfnNMWBCy7 https://t.co/ZP3Rf8JeU8

It is not "pro-woman" to talk to Kellyanne Conway. It is "pro-woman" to stand up for policies that benefit women: access to affordable health care, reproductive freedom and equal pay. https://t.co/0vvWY7KxXS

It’s really tiresome to see Kellyanne Conway constantly invoking her gender to shield herself and her boss from criticism. And it demeans the actual, real challenges women of both parties still face in professional politics. https://t.co/VkT3dAImSc pic.twitter.com/Yvij57lwBK

Some commenters relished the thought of a Pelosi-Conway face-off.
Nancy Pelosi told Kellyanne Conway she doesn't respond to the staff. Kellyanne got Pelosi'd. Whoopsie doodle... pic.twitter.com/P5znEM7saF

Conway did have at least one women’s group in her corner: Women for Trump, which bills itself as a “voice 4 smart, independent women.”
Good for Kellyanne! 👏👏👏
Too bad it wasn’t in public so we could all hear it... https://t.co/BJUJLhNSw5— Women for Trump (@WomenforTrump) May 22, 2019
Pelosi also declined to discuss the Conway controversy, according to reports.
Asked about Kellyanne Conway's comments about her, Pelosi responds: “I’m not going to talk about her. I responded as the Speaker of the House to the president of the United States.”
