Kelly Stafford says she wants her husband Matthew Stafford to get a vasectomy: 'I’m trying to get him snipped'
Kelly Stafford and her NFL player husband Matthew Stafford are struggling with a big question: When is the right time for Matthew to get a vasectomy?
On her podcast, The Morning After with Kelly Stafford, the influencer spoke to her athlete husband about their plans for him to get a vasectomy in order to ensure that they will not have more children. The couple already shares four kids, daughters Tyler, Chandler, Sawyer and Hunter, and are hoping to cap it at that.
Kelly joked, “I’m trying to get him snipped during The Masters but the a**hole won’t find a doctor.”
One reason for the debate, Kelly said, is that it’s unclear how long Matthew, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, will be out of commission following the surgery. Matthew pointed out, “If I can’t lift weights for two or three weeks how am I going to walk into Day 1 of our offseason program and say ‘sorry, I can’t lift weights, guys?'”
A vasectomy, also known as male sterilization, is considered a simple procedure. Per Planned Parenthood, there are two different types one can undergo: the incision method, which requires anesthesia, and the no-cut method, which has become more popular in recent years.
A vasectomy blocks or cuts the vas deferens so that sperm cannot get into semen upon ejaculation. It takes around three months after the procedure for there to be no sperm left in the semen, at which point it works as a pregnancy prevention method. Since there is currently no available male birth control, some opt to have a vasectomy to ensure their partner does not get pregnant.
According to the Mayo Clinic, one should rest for 24 hours after a vasectomy. After that, light activities are permitted, however, sports, heavy lifting, or other strenuous activities should be avoided for about a week.
Whether or not Matthew goes through with the vasectomy, Kelly explained that the couple needs to find a new method to avoid pregnancy. While the quarterback is all for male birth control, thus far, it's not an option.
“We’re done with having kids so we’ll have to figure that out,” she said. “I hate birth control and my sister got pregnant on it like three times so… Matthew doesn’t believe it either and I’m like but she did.”
