Katy Perry Made You a Mocktail
A booze-free holiday is no bore.
Choosing to skip out on booze this season — or just looking to channel your favorite Cali-sober celeb’s clarity and consciousness? You’re not the only one. Forbes reports that traditional spirits brands like Asahi and Heineken are expanding their non-alcoholic offerings and industry insiders found that nearly 40 percent of Americans have adopted a sober or “sober-curious” lifestyle. That new outlook on celebrating, which can be traced to consumers focusing more on their mental and physical health, means the holidays may look a little different now, with guests eschewing Champagne and spiked eggnog in favor of a mocktail.
Enter Katy Perry. Yes, the“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” singer celebrated with a pint (that came straight out of a custom-made beer-can bra) during Play, her Las Vegas residency, but the superstar and mother to 3-year-old Daisy Dove with fiancé Orlando Bloom isn't always in the mood for something spirited when she wants to raise a glass. Perry has mellowed since her 2010s debut and embraced motherhood, settling into a spot at the American Idol judges’ table in lieu of continent-spanning world tours. Instead, she stays busy backing startups working to eliminate food waste and preserve produce and running her own line of ready-to-drink non-alcoholic aperitifs, De Soi. (Say it with a French accent: The name comes from “ma?trise de soi,” which translates to “self-control.”) The drinks are “made with a sprinkle of feel-good adaptogens so you can get your partay on without the next-day blues," Perry says.

The brand’s Très Rosé is already a summertime staple to fans, but Perry turns to something a little deeper and earthier when temps drop and loyal Katy Kats cue up “Cozy Little Christmas.” “My holiday crush is Champignon Dreams,” she says, a blend of jammy fruit notes with the trademark bitterness of an apéritif. “It's juicy and rich, with a hint of earthy magic from reishi mushrooms." That specific type of mushroom, which is also known as the “herb of immortality,” can — according to the National Institute of Health — soothe stress and improve brain function; they even have beta-glucans, which can improve immunity, too.
As for when Perry would serve it? "It’s beyond perfect for pairing with everything from a charcuterie board to a festive feast that screams cozy-chic."
While Perry insists that De Soi is perfect as-is, straight from the can, she also gave us the recipe for her signature seasonal mocktail. "When it comes to hosting, I love to impress my guests by mixing up a Dreamy Pomegranate Sparkler, which is what I call a cocktail of Champignon Dreams with a few drops of hot honey, a splash of fizzy sparkling water, and a burst of pomegranate seeds," Perry says. "Pour it in your chicest glassware for a sip of spice with a pop of sparkle and holiday cheer. Here's to staying bubbly and balanced!"
