Katie Holmes Divulges What She Knows About Possible 'Dawson's Creek' Reboot
Interested in a Dawson Creek reboot? You're not alone.
Katie Holmes revealed that there have been numerous talks about the show's return. "There have been many discussions over the years. We all loved the experience," she said during a recent appearance at Cannes Film Festival.
However, the actress shared hesitations about bringing Dawson Creek back. "There's a protection that comes along with discussion. The show is a time capsule. To put it into today's world might tarnish it a little bit," Holmes explained.
She continued, "It was right before everyone had a phone and social media and all of that, so there was an innocence that was there between the characters that was one of the things I think people liked about the show. To put it into the setting of today's world, I'm not sure."
Holmes also said that the cast and crew want to work on a reboot when the timing is right and there's a story that works instead of just doing so for the sake of it.
"We've often talked about it. For now, we kind of just keep saying that until there is a real reason to do it, it hasn't been something where people have said, 'This is the take on it," the actress divulged.
James Van Der Beek has said multiple times that he has no plans to reprise the titular role. Joshua Jackson, who starred as Dawson's best friend Pacey, also told Ellen DeGeneres in 2016 that he doesn't think it's a good idea.
"It's been a long time. I mean, we're holding up okay, but I think if you put the four of us now next to the four of us then, it might be a little shocking," Jackson joked. The actor also pointed out that Michelle Williams wouldn't be able to return because her character was killed off.
