How Kate Winslet Really Feels About Being Mistaken for Cate Blanchett
Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett
Kate Winslet knows firsthand what it's like to be involved in a case of mistaken identity (or two).
The Mare of Easttown star said that she's been incorrectly identified as fellow Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett on several occasions, and apparently, the two go along with it.
Winslet, 48, discussed the silly situation earlier this week while speaking with Access Hollywood at New York City's American Museum of Natural History on Monday, Feb. 26, during the premiere of her new HBO show, The Regime.
During her conversation with the outlet, Winslet confessed that people have confused her for the 54-year-old Tár actress more than once. "That happens a lot, yeah," she said.
When asked if she ever goes along with the mixup, the British-born star said, "No, we do, yeah. I say, 'Oh, thank you so much.' And they say, 'Loved you in Elizabeth,' and I say, 'Thank you. That's so kind.' And she gets the same thing, where people will say to her, 'Loved you in Sense and Sensibility,' or 'Loved you in Titanic.' So, yeah, it happens."
Winslet went on, explaining that she has yet to step in and respond with her true identity when fans mistakenly identify her as the Australian-born star. Instead, she admitted to even posing alongside them for a selfie.
While some celebs may be insulted by fans who confuse them with someone else, Winslet certainly isn't one of them.
"To be mistaken for Cate Blanchett is a huge compliment," she added. "So, no, I'll take it. I'll take it."
